Durante la Prima guerra mondiale la proprietà fu confiscata dallo Stato italiano. Dal 1927 la tutela e la valorizzazione del complesso sono affidate all’Ente Villa Carlotta, che ancora oggi cura il museo, il giardino e il programma culturale.
